Yesterday, Gotham Schools did an article about the policy change concerning our lottery preference. We are excited about this change and are hopeful that this will allow us to reach out to the students who need it the most within our community.
We thank Anna and Gotham Schools for highlighting this issue!

We received word last week that we will be able to have a preference in our lottery for ELL students. This allows us to be true to our mission and community. We thank the SED for changing the policy that hindered this preference and for those who advocated on our behalf.

Recently we were featured in an article by Gotham Schools, a local blog that does a great job of reporting on all education news in the five boroughs.
This article explained our goal to have English Language Learners be given preference within our lottery and how current policy is not allowing us to do this.

Here we come. Tomorrow around 1pm, our charter application will be voted on (and we believe approved) and we will be an official charter school according to the New York State Education Dept. I will be headed to Albany early in the morning. Look for upcoming posts about new steps including student applications and recruitment and the beginning of the hiring process.

We continue to go through the SED clarification process. Depending on new questions this week we will either be headed to a Regents vote of approval in December or in January. We are hopeful for a December vote.

In the past month, IALCS has gone through a series of clarifying questions posed by the State Education Dept.
These questions seek to review and revise our current appplication so that it is able to align completely with state law.
There will continue to be additional questions in the next week as we move forward in the process.
The great news is, the Board of Regents vote may be moved up by one month! This is exciting news for us as it will allow us to get started earlier in student and staff recruitment!
